2012 was an exciting year for the Sacramento Values Project!  I'd like to share some highlights with you. . . and give you a peek of things to come!

The Values Project is a public art project in Sacramento that hosts group workshops at businesses, churches, non-profits, schools and hospitals to choose core values.  We then memorialize those values words by painting them in parking spaces throughout the city.  See the video HERE.                                     Peter Hassen, Artist
Workshops:  I held a series of excellent values workshops with kids from the Boys & Girls Clubs and the Leataata Floyd Elementary school.  Dozens of participants brainstormed values and chose a set of words that resonated with them and their community.  These words remind us of what we all share in common.

Installations:  With lists in hand, we painted those values words in dozens of places in parking lots and on the playground at the Teichert B&GC, Raley B&GC and Leataata Floyd Elementary school.  Seeing it everyday helps to reinforce our good intentions.

City of Sacramento:  I'm working with the Sacramento Metropolitan Arts Commission to gain approval for painting in up to two dozen City & County parking lots.
Endorsements:  The Project has received many endorsements from key community leaders, like Councilmembers Steve Cohn and Kevin McCarty and the Sacramento Interfaith Council.
Languages:  At the Floyd Elementary school we dug deeper into the community by painting their school values in English and the community language, Marshallese.  We hope to make the words available in Chinese, Vietnamese, Hmong, Mien, Russian, Arabic and Tagalog as well: we're all in this together!
English and Marshallese were used together at the Leataata Floyd school.
Extensions:  The Kennedy Center's "Any Given Child" program has accepted the Sacramento Values Project as an Art Exposure Experience for any school in the four school districts currently enrolled.
Funding:  Fractured Atlas came aboard as a fiscal sponsor, so now donations to the project are tax deductible.  If you want this project to happen in your neighborhood, please DONATE NOW, or SPONSOR a SCHOOL or NON-PROFIT.  Find out how HERE.
Upcoming in 2013

Over the next year we'll be connecting people to their values with group workshops at businesses, churches, non-profits, schools and hospitals. We will then paint the chosen values words in parking spaces throughout the city.

Now that we have several workshops and parking lot installations completed, we're taking the project to the next step: 50 workshops for thousands of Sacramentans and 1,000 words painted in parking lots throughout Sacramento.

In 2013 I'm working towards that goal by:
  • Hosting values workshops with community groups.
  • Securing parking lot owners to participate.
  • Finding tax deductible funding and business sponsorship for schools and Non-profits.
  • Working with non-english speaking communities to translate values.
You can help make this happen!
Discovering and sharing what we all have in common.
